Obama and homosexual marriage: Can he really say he doesn't support it with a straight face?

Barak Obama has stated, as many liberal politicians do, that he doesn't support same sex marriage but he does support giving homosexual couples all the benefits of marriage. That way, I presume, he can avoid offending the sensibilities of a lot of voters for whom that issue is very important.

I frankly believe that stance is a false facade for many politicians who give lip service to opposing homosexual marriage when in reality, they actually support it.

In Obama's case, I believe he's blown his cover on the issue in a recent letter to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, where Obama wrote:
As the Democratic nominee for President, I am proud to join with and support the LGBT community in an effort to set our nation on a course that recognizes LGBT Americans with full equality under the law. That is why I support extending fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples under both state and federal law. That is why I support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, and the passage of laws to protect LGBT Americans from hate crimes and employment discrimination. And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states.
In the course of his letter he supports repealing the Defense of Marriage Act which defines marriage for purposes of federal law as the legal union of one man and one woman and protects the rights of states not to be forced to recognize same sex marriages from other states. He supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples". And he opposes the California Constitutional Marriage Amendment which is the only thing preventing that state from being forced by the California Supreme Court to recognize homosexual marriage.

Given these statements I don't see how Obama can with a straight face say he doesn't support homosexual marriage. His only recourse would be reverting to the postmodern, linguistic gymnastics of saying, "Personally, in my heart of hearts I think marriage is between one man and one woman but I wouldn't want to impose my personal beliefs on others." Of course, do so would draw into question his personal integrity and character.

For purposes of truth in advertising Obama is, I believe, de facto in favor of homosexual marriage and more than willing to see it imposed, by judicial fiat if need be, on every state and thus every citizen in our nation.

Yes by all means, don't give homosexuals the right to be in a loveing shared relationship of monogamy. Lets not give them human rights equailty of paid and shared taxes, and health care. lets not allow a partner that has been with someone for 50 years, and only that person, the right to be in a hospital on their dieing moments.

But instead, lets keep the integrity of the conservative moment of what they call "the constitution of Marriage" with the huge amounts of divorce, infedilities, broken homes, and spousal abuse.

Because that is what Christ would want.

Are you being sarcastic?

If you are I don't see how that is useful to a mature, reasoned discussion of this topic. After all, we are all entitled to our own opinions, correct?

Aha! again with the opinion statement.

Just like the people that say, you are nothing to me, your voice doesn't count?

read your own posters, that are on your own side.

And my opinion is to be sarcastic.

I would love to see one of you in a situation, where you were not allowed to preach, or try to indoctrine, or colonize people into your religion, which you do every day.

I would love to see one of you not able to have the common decent rights as a human because you were different than a majority of people.

Homan rights, common rights, no matter where you base it on, religion or not, is what the fight is all about.

You want to base your "opinions" on Religion, which is a choice. Not a law. You can not base a equality driven society on YOUR religion.

unless of course you want a dictatorship.

For God so loved the World that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

I believe in God, I belive in jesus Christ, and I am a gay grandparent. I spent my life with one partner. longer than many many of you "devote" Christains who are part of broken homes.

I volunteer, I donate more than 10 percent of my small income to charity. I have fostered children and adopted

I will never have another partner because my soul was tied to only one.

I go to church every week.

But you would say I will burn in hell, that I do not deserve the equal rights as you.

I pay my taxes, I serve no crimes.

The only crimes that I have been involved in were those done onto me, by hate and others that have caused me bodily harm, in the name of their religon.

But I do not hate those who have committed these crimes on me. I pray for them, as I pray for all of you, to see the light, to accept Jesus Christ, and to understand, that you do not have all the answers. A book, written by man, that has been re-written hundreds of times, hundreds of years after the birth of Jesus Christ is not the only answer. If its the answer at all to our path to Jesus.

I will pray that you will not use the savior of our lives, to promote bigotry, I will pray for your souls.

I haven't stated what my beliefs/opinions are based on, you only assume you know. Do you what happens when you assume?

I am in my mid 20's, I am a woman. I come from a christain family, I have a loving father and mother. My parents were highschool sweethearts. My grandmother bakes pies, and lives in the country, my mother stayed home with me and made fresh cookies for me when I got home from school. I wear dresses, and makeup. My work is with young children.

I am gay. I am in a relationship and we are going out to california to get Married.

My family has always known, and accepts me and loves me and supports me and marches with me every year.

I have never been abused, and I played with dolls growing up.

medically you talk about the wrong doings of being Gay. My partner is a doctor, and has been active in the medical world. I was genectically born this way, and God made me.

I could use the bible for back up, verses, and passages of ruth, of love amongst women, of the word of man must not lay down with another man, and it does not state a woman.

I do not do that. I understand what Jesus would want from me. Not what of man wrote for me to do, or for men to do.

I have never had a medical issue, I will never have a medical issue because of my sexual behavior.

I can choose to have a baby if I want the "natural" way. Or I can adopt.

I also pray, and will pray for all your souls. For I know its what Jesus would want from me.

As long as you hide behind, your beliefs as reasons to try and indoctrine the laws, and everyone's elses actions. Which deny equal rights to people, its inslavery.

so I suppose you do support your bible that promotes slavery.

1 Corinthians 6:9-20

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

ALL PEOPLE THAT THINK THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN BECUASE THE BIBLE TELLS YOU SO, IS A RACIST, AND A PRO SLAVE, BODY OWNING, PRO RAPIST, AND PRO MUDERER.

BECAUSE YOUR BIBLE TELLS IT SO!

For God so loved the World that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Guess what that includes Gay people.

Great post I am linking to it from -- McCain vs Obama on California's same sex marriage

The "you are a racist if you believe" argument can be used with any behavior. Without a belief in Right and Wrong, there exist no behavior that is wrong from the viewpoint of the person doing it.

I think the question is should the court dictate to the people what marriage is or do we live in a democracy were the people have a voice. And, when the people do so should they look at the reasons and benefits? Traditional marriage benefits society by providing a new generation who had both daddy love and mommy love. Same sex marriage benefits those who got married and if they have heterosexual children denies them role models. It is a selfish marriage.

Anonymous said...

So the child who's fahter dies, and they have an aunt, uncle, grandfather instead of a father for a role model isn't goign to grow up a full decent and loved adult?

That old tale that you need a mommy and a daddy to serve all children right is as old as "you are a racist if you believe"

For I do not believe you are a Racist, but a bigot and a homophobe instead.

Who are you to judge what is a role model? who are you to judge anyone? Doesn't the religion that you base your ideals on homosexuals teach you to judge not?

You talk out of both sides of your mouth.

I believe it will be your children that grow up with issues, not a child in a homosexual based loving, and well meant family.

For a family such as this, is one that is well planned, chosen and in most cases, counciled and checked apon by many, where a "traditional" family can just have children when ever and how ever they want, without planning, love or ideals. With drinking, drugs, crimes, and abuse and get away with it for the full remainder of the childs life.

So I am sorry, your story can be debunked a hundred times over.

Then how do you explain the comment that anyone who is antigay is a racist?

Anonymous said...

That is stupid and offensive. I am a black woman, I believe in God. Your people did not endure hundreds of years of slavery. You choose to live a gay lifestyle. The difference between you and I is that you do not try to teach people acceptance with love and care. You shout hate at the top of your lungs and force some people that don't agree with your gay lifestyle into a fight when they are just not ready to hear you. I do not believe in homosexuality because I feel it is wrong, that is my choice. I don't say hateful things to you though and I will share a bus seat with any of you any of the time. You are wrong to strike at people so vengefully. You are wrong to assume so much about people here and you are wrong to teach love when you hate so much.

99% of all the line item posts here from the MFC are anti Homosexual. So its the hate on your side.

I do not put myself in your shoes. I mearly put the same verses of the text of the bible that condones slavery and also condems Homosexualy in the same catagory.

I did not right the condoning of slaves into the bible.

If you believe the bible is what backs up your religion, and you say you follow the rules of the bible, then it is clearly understandable that anyone would also take it to believe that one condones slavery.

I do not condone slavery, I also do not hate christain, but am one myself.

You say I hate, I do not. I do not try and take away human rights away from you.

But you take them away from me.

"A trifecta. Free speech vs Religious Rights vs Gay Rights.

A Canadian human rights tribunal ordered a Christian pastor to renounce his faith and never again express moral opposition to homosexuality, according to a new report."

Oh really? Your groups are constantly taking away the rights of conservatives, journalists, and mothers. In your effort to get not equal but special rights you step on the rights of all others. There is a huge difference in a person that wants to be a part of the whole community and a person that wants the whole community to appease his own needs. You want acceptance but you won't be accepting. You are on a conservative blog where conservatives have the right to their opinions and your bitching about their opinions on their own blog. You are a hypocritical mess. Like I said before why don't you go do something productive to teach acceptance instead. I bet if you voluinteered at a nursing home, you may find some conservatives there but as they get to know you, they may change their mind about you. But maybe pouting and whining is easier for you.

Do not confuse the conservative life and political party with the extreme religious oppressive state and special interest group you follow.

I am a conservative, I will not be voting for a republican this time.

For I see the moral decay our country has gotten to since they got in bed with the special interest groups of the extreme religious radicals.

i fear for lynching of my neighbors that do not "fit" in "your" moral structure.

Wars so great the world was involved were developed by the minds alike with the narrowness of the extremists such as yourselves.

I fear every day for the dictatorship to arrive here in our precious state of a country, because of the evils that the republican party has done by getting in bed with special interest one minded agenda groups such as yourselves.

Straight mom, stay at home, virgin at marriage.....(how many of you so called moral correct people can say that?)

afraid of life near "the moral family groups" such as yourselves.

While you act as though you are a loving human being you are continuously belittling me for having a point of view. You don't know me and you don't know anyone else on here that is blogging. But I guess rather than deal with actual facts you would rather insult, blame, and ridicule. You are proving me right on the horrendousness of the gay agenda.

Anonymous said...

I am not GAY!

I have no GAY Agenda!

I would care not for what I see as bigoted lifestyle you have chosen to live, if it was not the fact that people here press their views to the point of oppression.

My only agenda is one of Human rights.

For that is what Christ would want.
