ELCA and homosexuality

By Tom Prichard

The large Lutheran church body, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, continues to speak out of both sides of its mouth regarding homosexual behavior. The four and a half million member Evangelical Lutheran Church of America continues its debate about homosexuality and their clergy. The result is double talk and more confusion in a church body already adrift and losing members.

A study commissioned by the church on human sexuality in preparation for its next denominational meeting seeks to both placate those who hold to the biblical view that homosexual behavior is sin and incompatible with Scripture while at the same time seeking to please homosexual activists and their supporters in the denomination. The result: a church continuing its drift into heresy.

At their last national convention, delegates passed a resolution that gives bishops discretion on whether or not they enforce the policy prohibiting homosexual behavior among its clergy. In other words, individual bishops will determine what the ELCA’s position is in practice on the issue of homosexuality. These actions continue the liberal, unbiblical drift in the ELCA since it’s inception in the late 1980s.

The ELCA’s church leadership in its seminaries, bishops and bureaucracy is clearly very liberal while the average church member and many of its pastors would subscribe to a more biblical approach towards homosexual behavior.

It’s sad to see a church body with historic roots going back centuries repudiate a basic Christian belief. But that’s what the ELCA is looking to do. Our response whether you’re a member of an ELCA church or not? Pray for them and their leaders that they will not abandon the faith and there will be prophets raised up to speak boldly the truth in love.

do they still hold to the belief that slaves are a must?

Anonymous said...

do they still hold true to the idea that no woman shall teach a man?

do they hold true to the food laws, and sleeping laws of your spouses?

Anonymous said...

tell me chuck, how many slaves do you own?

does your wife sleep in a seperate bed when she has her period?

have you ever worked on the Sabbath?

Have you ever had a woman teacher? Does your wife perhaps teach?

Have you ever had a woman participate in the church you go to?

And if so, have any of these people including yourself been stoned to death? if not better get out some ice cubes for when you die cause your gonna burn!

Thanks Minnesota Family Council for getting the information to us. Some people who are commenting in favor of homosexuality have so much anger about living sinful lives. We will pray for them too. No amount of their training by GLBT organizations to question biblical teachings will make sense to the true believers. God knows best.

Anonymous said...

I am a straight person, with no gay person in my life. I have not been trained by anyone.

These are all very viable, good questions. Your biblical teachings say to own slaves! why do you not?

Anonymous said...

No anger here, and I need not your prayers but you need mine, and I will be giving them to you.

Why are some of your teachings ok, but others are not. these things that have been stated here by people are true, scriptures, why do you follow only some but not the others?

Gay grandparent, old, wise and not angry.

I have a question! has anyone ever worn a poly cotton blend? if so, you have broken Gods law. in the same scriptures of where you are told that Gay is a sin.

Anonymous said...

Question to you. do you believe in the bible. Question, do you follow the bible.

How do you choose what parts of the bible to belive in? is it a dart you throw?

Homosexual men hate women and mothers

Anonymous said...

Not only do they not hate them, but they embrace the. What a silly uneducated comment lol.

Lets see some real educated responses.

Anonymous said...

Gay = Bad, God Says so, and you follow that rule. Ok, get it, why do you NOT follow all his rules though? that is the question. Not why do you follow a law of his Holy book, why do you NOT follow all of them?

Anonymous said...

Is hatred of women a rule?

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure but one poster said that homosexuals hate women. Not that its a rule.

It is a rule to not allow women to teach men, and to speak in church though.

Anonymous said...

Judge not.......

Anonymous said...

DO homosexuals let women teach them? I don't get the correlation. I think anon is right there is a hatred of women amongst gay men somewhat. Or maybe a jealousy

Anonymous said...

There are wonderful homosexual out men teachers in our MPLS school system perhaps you just need to actually go to the schools and meet them.

Perhaps you need to actually meet a gay man to understand how stupid you sound?

.... Gay staight Female wife!

I was being sarcastic but maybe that witty banter is above your intelligence level, maybe you should heed your own advice and enroll yourself in a remedial program.

The tone of this discussion is not acceptable. Disrespectful and crude comments will be deleted.

Gay men love their mothers, their sisters and their children.

To say hateful things about gay people, makes you hateful, and exactly what the topis is trying to say you are not.

Thank you for showing your true colors and hate.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Gay men love their own mothers but that's as far as it goes. I have been harmed by a gay man more than anyone else in my life and I will never forget it. I will someday try to forgive but I doubt it.

Anonymous said...

That is unfortunate that you were harmed by a person. Any person. But I know from harm, and I do not blame all of that kind of person that harmed me. Not all people are like one.

You are wrong to think that they hate women. Best friends are usally women, no sex involved, just friendship. They teach, they educate, they are your neighbors, and they are even your clergymen.

You are wrong, hateful, and sinful to blame a full society of people for one action of one person.

Anonymous said...

As a straight mom and friend of a gay person, who is also male. You could never have been more wrong to say that Gay men hate women. My friend a father of girls, loves his girls, his mother, me, his sister, and even people that hate him.

To judge like that is so unchrist like.

Gay isn't sinful, hate is.

Anonymous said...

That is gross and completely unnecessary vulgar crap I didn't need to know.

Anonymous said...

Your the ones crying that its so un-natural and that its medically unacceptable, just trying to give you the medical facts.

You can't go about making stuff up. If your going to say one thing, then your going to get the facts. Don't be afraid of the truth.

Anonymous said...

I think its gross to live by a holy book that condones slavery.

I find the one poster who says gays hate females to be hillarious!

This comment made on a blog full of cliches, and this is what they come up with? Have you not ever seen how many girl friends a Gay man has? Have you not ever heard of of how a gay man is the best "Girlfriend" a girl can have? How a gay man can hang with a girl, and treat her equally but never forget she is a girl and protect her? how a girl is so often the wing "man" of a gay man? I am sorry you got hurt by a gay man. But that is absurd! gay's don't like women lol!

Those are superficial relationships built around gossip and shopping. Please show me one story where a gay man put his neck out on the line for a woman that wasn't a relative or a lesbian. I REALLY want to read one. I do want to be nondiscriminitory and try everyday to make myself antigay but it doesn't work. I tried to watch brokeback mountain but it made me sick. Maybe if I wasn't being tortured daily, I wouldn't feel this way.

Anonymous said...

I have a friend, who's best friend was not only a female but that female and her husband. When That best friend died of breast cancer, He being a stay at home parent became the parent in the day, now that straight husband, clings to that friendship, with that gay man with vibrant amount of force. The kids are almost grown, healthy and happy. They miss their mom. but without thier uncle mike in life, they would be lost. For it was this gay man that made it possible for their father to keep working, and to deal with his mourning. if that isn't a real enough relationship than your a very sick person.

If you are tortured daily get help. You are the reason why we need laws to protect gay people.

My best friend, since I was 10 years old has been a Female. I am a gay male.

She was the one I came out to first. The one that was there through out my childhood, knowing even before I did that I was.

she was there when I came out to my parents.

She was the one I called when I got beat up in highschool, and I was too scared to tell anyone, because I wasn't out yet.

She was there with me when I graduated College.

I was at her wedding, and i was in the hospital when she had her first child. I love her, her husband and her child, to whom I am the god father of. I spend the holidays with them.

I am just a bookish, geek of a man, who doesn't date much, just like the straight bookish geek men out there. But, I always have a date on their couch on a Sat night, to watch the newest disney dvd with their family.

Gay men are no different than other men, except who they sleep with. There are great relationships within the gay communities that overlap in all areas of life.

The idea that being gay is different, is the trouble here. It has been part of society from the begining of time. Only certain sections of society has had issues with them, and that is a society withing religious cultures that do not validate the actions of what it means to be gay.

Gay men people are fathers, friends, brothers, and human.

The way people on this blog treat them, is inhuman, and less than christ like to say the least.

"the gay agenda" is no where to be found. Human rights agenda is the only agenda. Civil and social rights. Equality amongst all people.

To say that you are a slave to the gay agenda, is in all my opinion, homophobic to say the very least.

Anonymous said...

I used to defend you, I used to honor and admire you. I gave a speech on gay rights and I volunteered for the Aids foundation. I used to accompany friends to Pride, I used to applaud your perserverance. And then one of you hurt me like I have never been hurt in my life and those of you that knew my story rallied to his side just because he was gay. You believed his lies even when he was caught in them. You instantly judged me though I had proof of how I was preyed upon. You allowed my rights to be stepped on to further gay rights and the gay agenda. He was fraudulent and manipulitive but you didn't care. You didn't even know me but I was not gay so you decided to publicly beat me to a pulp as if I hadn't been beaten enough. So no everyday I am filled with sorrow and anger. I am a martyr for the gay agenda. You have decided that before you even knew my name. I try everyday tomake the hate go away but with the constant torture and the constant inhumane acts done to me, I am left with no choice but to loathe the root of it all. You don't even know me and you still are against me trying to tell me I am an awful person because I try to stand up for myself and tell you how I was lied to. My words fall on deaf ears. You have taught me to hate homosexuality with your abuse and now you don't like who I have become. What the heck did you expect?

Anonymous said...

I expect you to be a christian and not blame millions for the act of one person or one group.

Anonymous said...

One group=the gay community

Anonymous said...

"to the one that was hurt by a gay man....

And so the hostility continues. Once again, I smell hypocrisy. You have no right to tell another person how to feel unless you have lived in their hell. I was not molested by a gay man by the way. I was molested by a straight man as a child, that doesn't even compare to the hell I've been put through by the gay man. I would take being raped anyday over the daily hell I live. But that doesn't matter. You obviously didn't listen to me, I used to defend you, I used to rally by your side. I no longer do that. I was not a big church going bible thumping christian. I do go to church now because it is the christians that understand my pain and have welcomed me with open arms. But your community instantly judged me, said terrible things to me and called me terrible names. Even though I had evidence of his lies. I'm not gay and he is so I am seen as the enemy before I even open my mouth. I have been more judged by your community than by anyone else in my life. You are hypocrites and false believers in acceptance. You do not accept people as you want to be accepted. You will only accept your own kind and demand that the world accept you. I have lost all respect for your community.

Anonymous said...

Again, this is one man, and his friends. Not millions.

Straight people are the ones that have caused wars, depressions, poverty, racism, bigotry of all kinds.

Do you hate all Muslims? Because of religious attacks in the middle east? And that is a huge groups of people, But as Christains, and decent people, you can seperate one from the millions.

If a french person, stepped on your toe would you call all french people clumsey?

If an Irish person robbed you, would all Irish be crooks?

If a group of hispanics girls on the playground, teased an asian boy, would you say all hispanics hate asains?

There is no logic for your thinking.

I do hope you get help for your pain. Therapy, from a real doctor is what you need.

For God so loved the World that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Guess what that includes Gay people.

For anyone that is anti gay because the bible says so, then you are all sinners. because you then support Slavery. Yo support Rape, and Muder.

Anonymous said...

The word is Murder and there is a U in You,

But I agree.

Anonymous said...

What is the correlation? You don't support homosexuality so you support slavery? That is ridiculous and offensive and I am a minority. I could say to you, you don't support terrorism so you are racist against arab people. Only a simple mind would parallel the two things.

Anonymous said...

if you back up the reason you do not support homosexuality because your bible tells you so, because your christain religion tells you so, then YES! the correlation is that you support slavery, because in the same book, same area, same writer supports and condones slavery.

that is the point. and perhaps your too simpleminded to see the correlation.

Anonymous said...

I never said the Bible told me so, you are referring to a different blogger. You are simpleminded to think you know exactly how everyone thinks and feels.

Anonymous said...

Ok, so you don't back your bible, thats between you and your church and Your God.

So your just homophobic and a bigot therefore.

too bad you have to bother with so much about people that you have nothing to do with their sex lives, but kids within your own church are having kids at age 15. i guess thats just fine, and I am sure that they are not getting std's when they do because God hates them, such as what you spew at the Gays.

Anonymous said...

No one is spewing as much hate as you. That is stupid and offensive. I am a black woman, I believe in God. Your people did not endure hundreds of years of slavery. You choose to live a gay lifestyle. The difference between you and I is that you do not try to teach people acceptance with love and care. You shout hate at the top of your lungs and force some people that don't agree with your gay lifestyle into a fight when they are just not ready to hear you. I do not believe in homosexuality because I feel it is wrong, that is my choice. I don't say hateful things to you though and I will share a bus seat with any of you any of the time. You are wrong to strike at people so vengefully. You are wrong to assume so much about people here and you are wrong to teach love when you hate so much.

Anonymous said...

I do not strike at anyone, I mearly say, that if you believe in the bible, the one that condones slavery as the reason you do not support homosexualy than its easy to understand why.

I do not take away human rights, I do not make law in my religions name, which is to indoctinate others into only my way of thinking.

I do not hate, but am hated because of what I am.

And by the way? I am black as well.

"A trifecta. Free speech vs Religious Rights vs Gay Rights.

A Canadian human rights tribunal ordered a Christian pastor to renounce his faith and never again express moral opposition to homosexuality, according to a new report."

Oh, really? Your groups don't try to take away the rights of others huh? Just by arguing on this blog you are infringing on Religious rights.

Anonymous said...

by arguing on this blog I stand up for my right to oppose your religion because I have my own religious beliefs.

Anonymous said...

A debate and opposing views is an infringement on your rights?

Are you such a special interest group, that one can not stand up to your vies and beliefs and for millions of others to think, discriminatory, and sinful in actions are what you do, so they want to be able to voice their opinions against yours?

Wow, are you that fragil? is your belief system so ready to crumble because others, millions and billions in fact, differ from yours in the world, want to take the same rights as yours and stand up for their belief system?

if its so fragil, perhaps you need to rethink the platform from which you preach.

I am not a gay person, I just recently started coming to this site this week, because of infomation I was given about you guys.

I will protect my children from your sins, just as you try to "protect" your own from things that have nothing to do with you, or come to any harm within your own family, but your thoughts, and opposition, and force of will on my own views, which you do by pressing your religious beliefs on the laws, is indeed harming me, my family and my children!

Anonymous said...

I agree with the woman protecting her child, for me I am the "sin" they write about. keep the enemy closer is what I say!

Anonymous said...

I guess you can't read very well.

I can read very well. I am not gay I am a christain, I find that this group, the MFC is a lobby group. One with an agenda that is sinister because it bases all its political views on Religion.

There is seperation of church and state.

religious rights are part of what makes this country great.

When you make it politics you go against the consitution and you make what was great, opposing and oppressive.

Seperation of church and state.

Preach from your pulpits not from the white house.
